Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to examine repetition in the interpreting of political discourse. To this end, three interpretings into Arabic of Obama's speech in Cairo were analyzed. In doing so, the thesis attempts to answer the questions: Why do interpreters use repetition? Do they have enough time to do so? What is the function of repetition? The overall conclusion is that particularly in interpreting where time is of the essence, repetition is often unnecessary, unless required. The thesis concludes by discussing some pedagogical implications for interpreting.
